ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS PROGRAM
In 1990, the Electrical Board initiated a new Awards Program. Under the direction of Nancy Martin, the Awards Committee decided to eliminate our “Student Award” program which awarded scholarships to students from the several area universities and established the “Electrical Industry Scholarship Award”. Kevin Knocke took over as Chair for the Industry Awards Committee in 2020.
These scholarships had been awarded in the past during the Spring Leadership Luncheon. After covid, we changed the awards program to a smaller luncheon in June. It has worked well for most scholarship recipients to be able to attend with their parents. Each recipient receives a $1,500 scholarship award and a plaque. The Electrical Board established this scholarship program to enable EBMI members and their immediate family an opportunity to apply for our scholarship, provided they meet certain criteria set down by the Awards Committee. YOU (not your company) must be a member of EBMI, ECMC or WEB for ONE year before applying. REMINDER …
The Electrical Board Foundation was formed in 1991 to provide the Industry Scholarship Awards to EBMI members and their immediate families.
This program is funded through many different programs. The Jackpot Sales and other contests at GOLFfest, Sportsman’s Holiday, Spring Leadership Luncheon and Christmas Mixer all help to support this Foundation.
There are other ways in which to contribute. Many of our members contribute to the Foundation when they pay their dues and we sincerely appreciate these donations which are now listed under Friends of EBMI Foundation. You can deduct the contribution to the Foundation from your taxes. No matter how small or large the donation, all the monies contribute to the goal of helping our members’ families receive scholarships to further their education.
In 2021, the EBMI Foundation Committee changed scholarship categories for donors. Several organizations, companies and individuals have provided scholarships which are now listed in the following donor categories: Gold (over $1500), Silver ($1000-$1499), Bronze ($250-$999) or Friends of EBMI Foundation ($1-$249). We thank these people for their generous support of our Foundation each year and are listed in the FLASH. If Gold, Silver or Bronze scholarships are donated, the donor is given recognition by EBMI in the FLASH newsletter.
At the suggestion of members, we also receive donations in memory/honor of a loved one. Many times, people have been very active in the electrical industry and/or EBMI. What a wonderful way to remember/honor them by donating to the Scholarship Foundation. EBMI has envelopes available upon request. In addition, EBMI sends a letter to the appropriate person to recognize such donations. Due to the response from this program, a few of our scholarships were donated in memory/honor of a person in the electrical industry or within their family.
